At the same time Mississippi Power is still stinging from the failure of its $7.5 billion coal gasification and carbon capture project, the utility also has cut the ribbon on a $7 million solar facility at the Naval Construction Battalion Center. The project is Mississippi Power’s first solar development in its 92-year history. It comprises 13,000 solar panels spread across 15 acres, providing 3.29 megawatts of electricity, enough to power about 450 homes. The project was built over a brownfield site that couldn’t be used for many purposes.
