A new 10-story office tower in downtown Edmonton, Alberta, Canada includes an entire facade of solar panels that are expected to provide 80 percent of the structure’s power and save occupants money on their power bills. Dubbed “The Edge,” the narrow building has 500 solar panels on its south-facing side, which will provide enough electricity to power the equivalent of 25 houses. The solar panels, which together cost about $400,000, are expected to save on energy costs and pay for themselves within five years.
