India’s coal imports declined by almost 22 percent in January as utilities drew off of abundant stockpiles, according to the latest data. Coal import for all type of coals stood at 14.3 million metric tons against 18.3 metric tons for January 2016. The Indian government said in September, 2016 that it was working on a plan to end dependency on coal imports in next 3-4 months in order to facilitate consumption of the surplus fossil fuel produced by Coal India.
