Chicago-based Commonwealth Edison energy efficiency programs have saved customers $2 billion since the utility established them in 2008. The company celebrated the milestone by presenting La Rabida Children’s Hospital – which has participated in two of ComEd’s efficiency projects, including the installation of a new HVAC energy management system – with an incentive check for $73,294. ComEd’s efficiency programs have reduced energy usage by more than 19.5 million megawatt-hours, enough energy to power more than 2.1 million homes for a year, and cut carbon pollution by 27.1 billion pounds, the equivalent to taking 2.5 million cars off the road.
