Salt Lake City has launched an initiative to transition the city to 100 percent renewable energy by 2032, and to cut carbon emissions citywide by 80 percent by 2040. The initiative, called Climate Positive 2040, comes as a result of a joint resolution signed by Mayor Jackie Biskupski and the Salt Lake City Council that cites the scientific consensus on climate change and the need to curtail the use of fossil fuels. It expands the scope of a previous resolution to power municipal operations with clean energy to include all electricity and emissions on a community scale. A complete copy of the joint resolution, is available here.
