Energy-Incentives-2 (1)
A new analysis by the American Wind Energy Association shows that U.S. government subsidies to fossil fuels dwarf those received by wind, solar and other renewable energy sources. According to AWEA, the data show that wind energy received less than 3 cents out of every federal dollar of energy subsidies. Coal, oil and natural gas, meanwhile, received from 65 cents from every dollar of incentives and tax breaks. AWEA, which compiled its data from a range of government and industry sources, also noted that many of the fossil fuel subsidies are permanently built into the tax code – some for nearly a century – and will never expire, while the main tax credits for wind and solar are set to expire within the next decade.
