New solar, wind and hydropower sources were added in 2015 at the fastest rate the world has yet seen, according to a new report by the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century, or REN21. Globally, an estimated 147 gigawatts of renewable power capacity was added last year, the largest annual increase ever. The Renewable Global Status Report also said investments in renewables during the year were more than double the amount spent on new coal and gas-fired power plants. Worldwide, more than 8 million people are now working in renewable energy.
